The Department of Biomedical Engineering is pleased to announce the preparation and publication of informational and instructional panels for the Siemens Anesthesia Machine, as part of our ongoing efforts to document advanced devices and enhance engineering awareness of their operation and maintenance.
The anesthesia machine is one of the most important pieces of equipment that ensures patient safety during surgical procedures. The new panels were designed to document its engineering details and safe operating procedures.
About the Anesthesia Machine:
• Device Name: Anesthesia Machine.
• Manufacturer: Siemens (Germany).
• Primary Function: The machine delivers a continuous flow of medical gases (such as oxygen and nitrous oxide) and calibrated anesthetic vapors to the patient. Its vital function is to maintain a safe anesthesia state for the patient throughout surgery, while monitoring their respiratory function.
What do the new information panels include?
The newly prepared panels focus on the critical engineering and operational elements that ensure the device's surgical readiness, including:
1. Primary and Spare Components: Identifying vital components, such as GEM PAK cartridges, calibration solutions, spare sensors, and the power cable.
2. Preventive Maintenance Program: Highlighting the periodic maintenance schedule (daily/weekly/monthly/annually), starting with daily inspection of oxygen levels and evaporators and leak testing, through weekly inspection of the breathing circuit, monthly filter replacement, and finally comprehensive annual maintenance and calibration by a certified engineer.
We invite all students, engineering, and technical staff to review these panels to deepen their understanding of the operation and maintenance of this sensitive device, contributing to ensuring the highest standards of quality and sustainability in healthcare.
