Under the Guardianship of Prof Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and being part of the Sustainability Week Activities, a Dialogue Session has been organized under the title "Green Journalism".
It is remarkable to note that the Session has included the following Academics as Active Participants:
1. Dr. Imran Kadhim Al-Karkoushi / University of Karbala;
2. Dr. Ali Shamkhi / Research & Studies Center at the Ministry of Culture;
3. Prof Dr. Kadhim Jasim Mansour Al-Azzawi / University of Babylon, College of Arts; and
4. Dr. Akram Al-Rubaie / Head of Media Department at Al-Mustaqbal University as the Session Rapporteur.
The Session has been launched with an introductory speech delivered by Dr. Akram Al-Rubaie, in which he has focused on Green Journalism and the reasons that have led to using such description, clarifying that Journalism has been described as 'Green' due to being connected with Sustainable Development.
During the Session, the Speakers have discussed the following issues:
a. Role of Journalism & Environmental Media
b. Preservation of Arabic language in Green Journalism
c. TV Interviews and their Relations with Sustainable Development
The Speakers in their Speeches have pointed out three basic features:
1. Climate Change, being the Political Feature that has become an Existential Issue, threatening the Existence of Humans on Earth, and leading to International Conflicts & Disputes;
2. Environmental Feature, where the necessity for expanding Green Spaces is urgently rising due to being quite essential in combating Climate Change; and
3. General Cultural Feature, in which Environment and Climate Change shall be disseminated, highlighting the clarity of the Vocabulary that goes into constructing Media Expressions with the necessity to maintain highly accurate Arabic Language in the Press when talking about Climate Change and Green Journalism.
At the end of the Session, the Speakers have emphasized the importance of Media in covering Sustainable Development Issues, such as Healthy Media as well as Crisis Media and others. Such Coverage indeed is of great importance at the present time due to the emergence of issues related to Climate Change, Natural Resources, and Environmental Challenges. Accordingly, Television Interviews, for example, that are related to Sustainable Development shall be carefully designed, prepared and broadcasted.
Finally, we are obliged to note that at the end of the Session, Speakers have been honored with Shields and Certificates of Appreciation.
