The Department of Optics Technologies held a seminar entitled "Biological Materials and Their Applications" presented by the department's lecturer, A.L Zainab Jawad, in the presence of a number of teachers and students, on Sunday 20/11/2022. The bio materials used in tools were discussed. Medicinal and used in the biological system. They can be metallic, ceramic, polymeric materials or compounds of materials that are distinguished from other materials in that they possess a set of chemical, mechanical, and physical properties, and these properties make their use appropriate and effective in the body's environment.
Biomaterials are used in:
Sutures (temporary or absorbable), Catheters (fluid transport tubes), Blood bags, Contact lenses, Intraocular lenses, Knee and hip prostheses, Dental implants, Pacemakers (pulse generators), Joint replacement, Ligaments and artificial tendons, Vessels Artificial blood, heart valves, skin repair devices, breast implants.
