Under the guardianship of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, Dean of Al-Mustaqbal University College, and within the constant efforts to achieve the requirements of UN SDGs, the Department of Building & Construction Technical Engineering, organized a scientific seminar on Thursday 10th June 2021, at 09:00 p.m. via FCC Platform, entitled
“A comparson Study between porous and conventional asphalt concrete mixtures”
The seminar lecturers were submitted by the academics in the Department, Assist. Prof Dr. Abdul Hadi Muteeb Hassan and Mr. Tameem Mohammed Hashim.
This seminar aimed to establish a comparison between the porous and conventional concrete mixes as per physical and maintenance characteristics. Porous Asphalt is a mixture cordial to environment since it controls the amount of surface water, and meanwhile it is appropriate for constructing asphalt roads for traffic loads ranging between light to moderate, whereas the conventional asphalt endures heavy traffic loads.
39 lab samples of the asphalt mixes have been used to assess the physical and maintenance characteristics for both types of the asphalt, such as stability, air voids, creep and indirect tensile strength to identify the essential differences between the two types of the concrete mixes.
Results have shown that the conventional concrete mix is more efficient and durable than the porous concrete mix. However, it is remarkable to note that the porous type of asphalt can be implemented in areas with much rainfall regardless of the size of traffic.
At the end of the seminar, some concepts have been discussed and replying to questions and inquiries raised by the participants.
