The Department of Biochemistry at the College of Science proudly congratulates Dr. Aseel Amer Hadi, a faculty member in the department, on publishing a distinguished research paper in the internationally recognized Journal of Petroleum Research and Studies, Volume 15, Issue 3, September 2025.
Research Title:
Bioremediation of Contaminated Soil with Hydrocarbons in Gas Stations with Alkane Hydroxylase Purified from Pseudomonas fluorescens
This study was conducted in collaboration with researchers from several Iraqi scientific institutions, highlighting an important advancement in environmental biotechnology, particularly in the bioremediation of petroleum contamination.
Key Findings:
The use of Pseudomonas fluorescens bacteria to produce the enzyme alkane hydroxylase, which demonstrated a high capacity to degrade hydrocarbons.
Achieved 67% hydrocarbon degradation after 96 hours of incubation.
Removed 43% of hydrophobic pollutants from contaminated soil within 24 hours at a concentration of 150 µg/ml.
Research Significance:
This work reflects Dr. Aseel Amer Hadi’s dedication to addressing environmental challenges by applying microbiological and biochemical techniques for sustainable pollution remediation. The research contributes to safer and eco-friendly solutions for petroleum pollution, which threatens soil and groundwater quality.
