Under the patronage and in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, Baghdad University hosted the opening ceremony of the Erasmus+ National Day activities. The event was organized by the Ministry in cooperation with the European Union Delegation to Iraq, and took place on September 8-9, 2025.
In his opening remarks, the Minister emphasized that cooperation programs with the European Union represent a vital platform for developing the higher education system in Iraq. These programs offer advanced opportunities for faculty to enhance their research skills, provide students with multicultural learning experiences, and equip administrative staff with specialized skills in university governance and modern management. He also announced the establishment of specialized units in all Iraqi universities to oversee Erasmus programs and transform international partnerships into effective educational and research projects that enhance the global standing of Iraqi universities.
For his part, the Undersecretary for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Haider Abdul Zahid, presented a seminar outlining the prospects for academic cooperation and internationalization through the Erasmus program. He discussed opportunities for academic mobility, capacity-building programs, and strengthening international partnerships as strategic pathways for advancing the higher education sector in Iraq.
As part of this event, AL_Mustaqbal University was represented by an official delegation. Led by the University President, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy, the delegation included Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Academic and Scientific Affairs; Dr. Samir Ibrahim Badrawi, Director of Cultural Relations; and Ms. Elaf Salah Mahdi, the Erasmus Program Coordinator at the University.
During its presentation, the university delegation emphasized AL_Mustaqbal University's commitment to international academic engagement, highlighting its adoption of innovative initiatives in the field of internationalization of higher education. These include academic mobility programs, the establishment of strong regional and international partnerships, and the hosting of postgraduate programs in collaboration with prestigious universities, all in line with the Ministry's vision and strategic plans.
