The Mesopotamian student initially learned cuneiform writing with simple signs consisting of a few cuneiform strokes. The sign could be repeated several times. It appears on clay tablets in the form of lists organized in columns, as the list usually does not explain the meaning and appropriate uses of each of these values (signs). This knowledge or method may have resulted from the teacher's instructions or was known to the student who copied this section, as it is not possible to know whether the student followed specific instructions during instruction at this stage of writing training. There are texts from the first educational stage whose purpose was to teach the basics of writing. The student learned to write the signs by pressing the stylus on the clay to form equal nails. After that, the student learned the basic elements of cuneiform writing: vertical and horizontal pegs and angles. These elements were later combined into a single syllable, which is repeated in the lists of signs: 1.BAD, which rather stands for DIŠ, AŠ, U, a combination of the basic elements of cuneiform writing. The student learned to write the individual cuneiform syllables and pronounce them so that he could later use them as syllabic signs for writing. Words, and often these lists start with the easiest signs in form and then progress to more difficult signs, as these lists known as ((Sb, Sa are among the most important exercises for learning in the first stage and are similar to the elementary stage, as all writers (students) passed through this level and it is the basic training for writers during this stage.
