Professor Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, announced that the university has obtained a copyright protection certificate from the National Center for Copyright and Related Rights affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, for the document Intellectual Property Policy at Al-Mustaqbal University. This achievement cements Al-Mustaqbal University’s position as the first academic institution in Iraq to launch and establish an institutional policy document for the protection of intellectual property.
Dr. Majdi stated in a press release to the university media that this milestone represents a historic step in the university’s journey toward leadership and excellence. The document was first launched during the Future Week for Sustainability Festival last April serving as a pioneering institutional reference that enhances the environment for creativity and innovation in Iraq.
He emphasized that protecting intellectual property is not merely a legal procedure, but a fundamental pillar for building a knowledge-based economy founded on ideas and innovations. Such protection ensures that innovators, researchers, and pioneers have exclusive rights that allow them to develop their work and inventions without fear of infringement or imitation. It also provides investment and commercial opportunities giving institutions a competitive advantage in the market attracting partners and investors, and creating potential new revenue streams through licensing or rights transfer. Furthermore, it establishes a safe environment that encourages research and development and supports entrepreneurs in obtaining necessary funding for their projects.
The university president concluded by affirming that Al-Mustaqbal University continues to strengthen its pioneering role in empowering innovators and researchers, and that this achievement will contribute to embedding a culture of intellectual property as a cornerstone for building a modern Iraq based on knowledge and innovation.
