Computed Tomography (CT): One of the Most Important Tools in Medical Diagnosis
By Dr. Ahmed Najm Ubaid

Computed Tomography (CT) is considered one of the most important tools in modern medical diagnostics, particularly in the field of oncology. It provides precise three-dimensional cross-sectional images of internal organs, allowing physicians to:

Accurately determine the tumor’s location and size.

Assess its relationship to surrounding tissues and vessels.

Identify the extent of its spread within or beyond the organ.

Evaluate its response to chemotherapy or radiotherapy through follow-up scans and comparative imaging.

The CT scanner is distinguished by its speed and efficiency. It can also be used with contrast agents to enhance image clarity, especially for tumors that are difficult to distinguish with conventional X-rays.

Despite concerns regarding radiation exposure, recent advancements—such as low-dose techniques and the integration of artificial intelligence—have significantly reduced risks while maintaining diagnostic accuracy.

In summary, CT imaging remains a cornerstone in the early detection and treatment planning of tumors, thereby improving recovery rates and increasing the precision of medical interventions.
