The New Academic Year Commences at the Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques

This week marked the beginning of the new academic year at the Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques within the College of Health and Medical Technologies, in an atmosphere filled with optimism and scientific enthusiasm. The department welcomed its students as both theoretical and practical lectures commenced—forming the cornerstone in preparing qualified medical professionals to serve the community.

In the theoretical aspect, faculty members began delivering scientific lectures according to the scheduled timetables, providing reviews of core subjects and introducing students to the educational objectives of the new semester. Emphasis was placed on academic commitment, as well as fostering scientific inquiry and analytical thinking, to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.

On the practical side, the department’s laboratories witnessed the launch of hands-on training sessions under the direct supervision of professors and teaching assistants. Students practiced using modern laboratory technologies in areas such as clinical analysis, microbiology, and biochemistry. The laboratories were equipped with advanced instruments and necessary educational materials, ensuring a comprehensive and safe scientific environment.

The Head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques, Prof. Dr. Dakhel Nasser Taha, affirmed that this academic year, the department is focusing on strengthening the integration between theoretical knowledge and practical skills in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly Goal 15: Life on Land. This is being pursued through encouraging student research projects that explore the impact of environmental pollution and chemical factors on human health and living organisms within terrestrial ecosystems, linking laboratory sciences with biodiversity protection.

These efforts align with the college’s vision to build a scientifically aware generation equipped with high practical skills and a deep sense of responsibility toward the environment and society, thereby contributing to the creation of strong and sustainable institutions that support both human and environmental health.
