Al-Mustaqbal University celebrated the Iraqi National Day this morning in an atmosphere filled with pride and patriotism, attended by a number of university vice presidents, deans, professors, staff members, and students.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Al-Fatiha in honor of Iraq’s martyrs, followed by the national anthem. Afterwards, a speech by the University President, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, was delivered on his behalf by Prof. Dr. Muzafar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision at the university.
In his speech, Dr. Al-Zuhairi emphasized that October 3rd marks a historic and everlasting day in Iraq’s history — the day Iraq declared its independence and joined the League of Nations in 1932, becoming the first Arab country to gain full international recognition of its sovereignty. This milestone, he noted, stands as a testament to the sacrifices and struggles of generations who fought for freedom and independence.
He further stated that celebrating this occasion is not merely a remembrance of the past, but a renewal of loyalty and devotion to the homeland — a reaffirmation of the values of sacrifice, nation-building, and collective responsibility toward progress and development.
Dr. Al-Zuhairi also highlighted that Al-Mustaqbal University, in fulfilling its academic mission, recognizes that its responsibility goes beyond graduating skilled professionals; it extends to shaping the Iraqi individual who is deeply aware of their national identity, open to the world, and firmly believes that “knowledge without a homeland has no soul, and a homeland without knowledge has no future.” He added that every academic and research achievement of the university represents a contribution to building Iraq’s future in science, innovation, and sustainability.
At the conclusion of his address, Dr. Al-Zuhairi prayed for Iraq and its people, wishing progress and prosperity for the nation, and affirmed that Al-Mustaqbal University will remain faithful to its mission, combining authenticity with modernity and continuing to serve as a beacon of knowledge and patriotism.
The celebration also featured a documentary film highlighting key moments in Iraq’s history and its path toward progress. The event concluded with expressions of national pride, as Iraqi flags were raised and patriotic songs filled the air, reflecting the university community’s love for Iraq and their pride in belonging to this great nation.
