Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Future University, the Sustainability Ambassadors organized an educational seminar titled “Drugs Destroy Your Future”. This initiative aligns with the third Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3): Good Health and Well-being, aiming to raise awareness about the health and social risks of drug addiction.
A distinguished panel of professors, including Dr. Roaa Majid Mohammed, Dr. Mahdi Hamza Mandhour, Dr. Abbas Abdul-Hussein Hassan, and Dr. Hatem Kareem, led the discussion, highlighting the devastating effects of drug abuse on individuals and society.
Drugs: A Threat to Health and Well-being
The seminar emphasized the severe health consequences of drug use, including liver damage, heart diseases, and nervous system disorders. The speakers also warned about the psychological impact, which can lead to depression, anxiety, psychosis, and even suicide. Furthermore, addiction results in a loss of personal control, negatively affecting one’s career and social relationships.
On a broader scale, the seminar discussed the societal repercussions of drug abuse, such as rising crime rates, family disintegration, decreased productivity, and threats to social stability and security.
Raising Awareness for a Healthy Society
The speakers stressed the importance of collaborative efforts among communities and institutions to combat drug addiction through awareness programs and rehabilitation support for addicts, ensuring their reintegration into society. These efforts are crucial for promoting public health and well-being in alignment with sustainable development goals.
The event concluded with a call to action, urging universities and educational institutions to play an active role in educating young people, fostering positive health values, and creating a supportive environment that protects them from drug-related risks. This initiative marks a significant step toward a healthier and drug-free
future.
