Under the patronage and attendance of His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Dr. Helo Al-Askari, almustaqbal University signed a memorandum of joint scientific cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, aiming to strengthen partnerships in the fields of environmental research and sustainable development. This step comes within the framework of the directives of almustaqbal University President, Professor Hassan Shaker Magdy, to achieve sustainable development goals and capitalize on the university's achievements and research in this field.
The memorandum includes a wide range of areas of joint cooperation, most notably supporting environmental research and studies, providing scientific consultations, and reporting on environmental impact. It also includes organizing joint conferences and workshops, implementing capacity-building training programs, and raising awareness of the importance of adopting sound environmental practices to ensure sustainability. The partnership will also include conducting environmental surveys and promoting related activities and events through both parties' media platforms.
The signing ceremony was opened by Professor Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision at the university, who welcomed the Minister and the accompanying delegation. Al-Zuhairi emphasized that this memorandum represents "a true starting point for fruitful joint action in the field of environmental protection, working to reduce pollution and emissions, and lowering the carbon footprint, especially in light of the escalating climate challenges facing the world."
For his part, His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Dr. Helo Al-Askari, praised the efforts of the university's presidency and academic staff, expressing his appreciation for the ambitious environmental initiatives and successful practical experiences he had witnessed. The Minister stated, "What we have witnessed today at the University of the almustaqbal is a source of pride. It represents a living model of a sustainable university that goes beyond theorizing, but rather transforms ideas into tangible reality that positively impacts the environment and society."
The signing ceremony was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment for Administrative Affairs, a number of government officials from the environmental departments in the Middle Euphrates Region and Babil Governorate, Assistant Professor Dr. Abbas Al-Bawi, Scientific Assistant at the university, and a host of deans, department heads, and faculty members.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Professor Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi presented the almustaqbal University shield to His Excellency the Minister and presented him with a copy of the official certificate awarded to the university by the British Times Higher Education Foundation. This certificate documents almustaqbal University's achievement of first place globally in the Clean Energy (SDG 7) pillar of the Times Higher Education Sustainable Development Index for 2025, a first-of-its-kind achievement among Iraqi and Arab universities.
