The Department of Archaeology at the College of Arts and Humanities, Al‑Mustaqbal University, organized a scientific seminar titled “Combating Violent Extremism,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Farhan Al-Bakri, and attended by a number of academics, students, and those interested in cultural and social affairs.

The seminar addressed the causes of violent extremism and ways to combat it from a cultural, educational, and societal perspective. It also highlighted the importance of building a moderate intellectual discourse that reinforces the values of tolerance and dialogue, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 16, which calls for “Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions” and emphasizes reducing all forms of violence, enhancing the rule of law, and building effective and accountable institutions at all levels.

During his lecture, Dr. Al-Bakri pointed out that combating extremism is not limited to security aspects alone; it requires comprehensive efforts in education, culture, and training, which contribute to the strengthening of peaceful and inclusive societies. This, he stressed, represents the core of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations as part of the 2030 Agenda.

At the conclusion of the seminar, an open discussion took place among the attendees, focusing on the main challenges facing society in the fight against extremism and the need to activate the role of universities in enhancing societal awareness and achieving sustainable development.
