Al-Mustaqbal University Hosts the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Conference on Digital Transformation and Automation
This morning, Al-Mustaqbal University hosted the national conference on the Digital Transformation and Automation Project in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and its institutions. The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, with the participation of presidents of public and private universities, assistants, deans, academics, and students.
His Excellency the Minister was represented at the conference by Professor Dr. Haider Abdul-Dahd, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, who delivered the opening speech. He affirmed that digital transformation has become a national and strategic necessity to keep pace with global developments in education, administration, and technology. He pointed out that this promising project will enhance institutional, administrative, academic, and student performance, simplify procedures, save time and effort, and promote transparency and service quality.
Dr. Abdul-Dahd emphasized the crucial role of universities in ensuring the success of this national initiative, viewing them as knowledge-generating institutions and drivers of development, capable of turning technology into effective tools for resource management and excellence.
In the speech delivered on behalf of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Mudhafar Sadiq Al-Zuheiri, Director of Academic and Scientific Supervision, welcomed all attendees and conveyed the greetings of the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi. He expressed the university’s pride in hosting this significant conference that highlights one of the key areas of development in higher education in Iraq.
Dr. Al-Zuheiri noted that digital transformation is not merely a technical process, but rather a qualitative shift in the philosophy of university operations. It aims to build an intelligent system capable of adapting to global changes, enhancing performance efficiency, and fostering effective communication with students, researchers, and faculty. He added that digital transformation is a fundamental pathway toward good governance, improving education quality, and achieving internationalization.
He also stated that Al-Mustaqbal University believes in the importance of this transformation and has been implementing digital projects in administrative, academic, and service areas for several years. The university continues to develop its digital infrastructure and expand its partnerships in line with future demands.
The conference included a detailed presentation by Dr. Ameer Thuwaini, Director of the IT Department at the Ministry, outlining the components, implementation stages, challenges, and opportunities of the digital project.
Additionally, the conference witnessed the distribution of unified electronic university ID cards to a group of Al-Mustaqbal University students—one of the outcomes of the national digital transformation project. Deputy Minister Dr. Abdul-Dahd conducted a live demonstration involving card charging and electronic payments, which was met with enthusiasm and praise from the audience.
At the conclusion of the conference, attendees expressed their appreciation to Al-Mustaqbal University for its excellent hosting and organization. They emphasized that the conference represents a significant step in advancing Iraqi higher education and realizing the vision of smart universities, calling for sustained efforts to expand digital transformation across all sectors of university operations in Iraq.
