Introduction:
Lasers are an effective and advanced tool in the world of beauty and skin care. However, their use requires high precision and strict adherence to occupational safety procedures to avoid potential risks such as burns, eye damage, or skin injury. In this article, we review the most important safety standards that must be followed in beauty centers when using lasers.

First: The Importance of Occupational Safety
Safety procedures help:
• Protect clients from harm or complications.
• Maintain the health of the technician or specialist.
• Ensure quality of service and business continuity.
• Comply with the legal and regulatory regulations of the Ministry of Health or professional associations.
Second: Types of Potential Risks from Laser Devices
1. Skin burns resulting from high laser power or improper use.
2. Eye injury if appropriate protective eyewear is not worn.
3. Infection due to poor sterilization of the device or accompanying tools.
4. Respiratory problems resulting from fumes or odors in some types of lasers (such as laser peeling).
5. Device damage due to misuse or lack of regular maintenance.
Third: Safety Procedures to Follow
1. Training and Qualification:
• The user must be formally trained on how to use the specific device.
• Knowledge of the characteristics of each type of laser (Nd:YAG, Diode, Alexandrite, etc.).
2. Preparing the Location:
• Designating a dedicated room for the laser.
• Equipping the room with non-reflective walls.
• Providing adequate ventilation.
3. Personal Protection:
• Wearing laser safety goggles (for both the technician and the client).
• Wearing appropriate gloves and clothing.
• Using masks when necessary (especially with carbon laser or ablative).
4. Sterilizing Tools and Surfaces:
• Sterilizing hands and the device before and after each session.
• Using disposable tools if possible.
• Sterilizing the bed and handles.
5. Client Preparation:
• Explaining the details of the session and potential risks.
• Ensuring that there are no contraindications (such as pregnancy, medications, skin conditions, etc.).
• Conduct a sensitivity test before the session.
Fourth: Regular Device Maintenance
• Regularly inspect the device by a qualified technician.
• Ensure the power and filter type are appropriate for your skin type.
• Keep a maintenance log and record the results of each session.
Fifth: Reporting Incidents
• In the event of a burn or injury, document it and inform the person in charge.
• Provide prompt first aid.
• Stop using the device until it is examined by an expert.
Conclusion:
Lasers are an effective and amazing tool in the beauty industry, but without adhering to safety procedures, they can become a major risk. Training, caution, and adherence to guidelines are essential to protecting yourself and your clients. Every beauty professional should consider safety their first priority.
