Under the patronage of the President of ALmustaqbal University, as part of the efforts made to reduce the spread of smoking and raise awareness of its dangers, the College of Medicine organized an anti-smoking awareness campaign, with the participation of sustainability ambassadors in the college, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Nimah Hassouni Mahdi and Dr. Hussein Naji Abdullah, teaching staff at the College of Medicine.
This campaign comes within the framework of the university’s commitment to achieving the third goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (good health and well-being), which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for everyone at all ages. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the health risks associated with smoking, both to smokers themselves and to the environment surrounding them, and to highlight the chronic diseases caused by smoking, such as heart disease, respiratory diseases, and various cancers.
The campaign also included workshops and dialogue sessions presented by specialists in the field of public health, where the latest studies on the harms of smoking and ways to quit smoking were reviewed, in addition to providing practical advice and psychological support for those wishing to quit smoking. Combating smoking is a collective responsibility that requires the combined efforts of everyone, both individuals and institutions, to reduce this phenomenon and protect the health of society. Through this campaign, the College of Medicine demonstrated its effective role in raising community awareness
