On Saturday, August 9, 2025, the Dean of the College of Medicine at Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Walaa Louay Al-Falluji, participated in the first online meeting of the Committee for Developing the Medical Education System in the country. The meeting was held via Zoom and chaired by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahad, with the attendance of several presidents of local universities, the Director General of the Department of Studies and Planning at the Ministry of Higher Education, the Chairman of the Deans’ Committee of Medical Colleges, and the deans of medical colleges across the country.
The meeting addressed the topics listed on the agenda, the most important of which was discussing the appropriate methods and strategies to enhance the quality of medical education at all levels, in order to achieve the highest required scientific outcomes. Emphasis was placed on ensuring the readiness of the infrastructure of medical colleges in line with the number of students and their needs, as well as updating academic curricula to keep pace with the latest global developments in the field. Attention was also given to providing the necessary teaching staff to improve the quality of education and training, with a strong focus on achieving the desired goals in medical education—producing highly qualified graduates who will serve the community in the future.
Additionally, several related issues were discussed, including the annual student admission plan, capacity limits, and the provision of all basic requirements that could help develop medical education in the country.
Following this, the floor was opened for members of the committee and the attending deans to discuss matters related to the agenda items, address the main challenges facing these areas, and propose practical solutions to overcome obstacles in a way that serves the educational and academic process.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to hold the next in-person meeting at the Ministry of Higher Education headquarters, to officially launch and activate the work of the committee in full, for the benefit of society. The Presidency of Al-Mustaqbal University and the College of Medicine’s administration remain committed to keeping pace with the latest updates and developments in medical education, striving to achieve the highest levels of quality and academic excellence, in a manner that ensures success and serves the public interest.
