Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi President of Al-Mustaqbal University announced that the university has ranked first among Iraqi universities in the renowned global ranking US News & World Report for its 2025 edition — marking a new academic achievement added to the university’s distinguished record of excellence and advancement.
According to the ranking results, seven Iraqi universities made it to this year’s list which included 2,250 universities worldwide. Al-Mustaqbal University ranked first nationally across both public and private universities followed by the University of Sulaimani in second place and the University of Baghdad in third. The ranking continued with the University of Technology, Cihan University – Erbil, the University of Babylon and the University of Basrah, from fourth to seventh places, respectively.
Al-Mustaqbal University also ranked 396th in Asia among the best universities on the continent. In terms of specific fields and programs it ranked 751st in Chemistry and 771st in Engineering.
The US News & World Report – Best Global Universities ranking relies on a set of rigorous indicators that assess universities’ academic and research performance. The data is automatically collected from the global Clarivate Analytics database.
The ranking’s most prominent indicators include:

- Subject-specific excellence
