As part of its efforts to enhance its academic and research presence on the international scene, AL_Mustaqbal University participated in the "Digital Learning Week," organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at its headquarters in Paris, France, from September 2 to 5, 2025, under the theme:
"AI and the Future of Education: Direction, Disruption, Dilemmas."
The university was represented at this global event by Professor Hassan Shaker Magdy, President of AL_Mustaqbal University, along with a group of ministers of education, decision-makers, academics, and international experts in the fields of education and artificial intelligence. The main session was opened by Ms. Stefania Giannini, Assistant Director-General for Education at UNESCO; Mr. Tomas Lamanauskas, Deputy Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union; and Mr. Thomas Davin, Director of the Office for Innovation at UNICEF.
Attendees at the week's sessions engaged in scientific dialogues and workshops that in-depth discussed the challenges and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence to education systems and how it can be leveraged to enhance quality and equality, without neglecting the psychological, social, and ethical dimensions accompanying these transformations.
In the concluding recommendations presented by Mr. Sobhi El-Tawil, Director of the Division for the Future of Education and Innovation at UNESCO, it was noted that the integration of artificial intelligence into education brings about fundamental transformations not only in what students learn, but also in how they think and interact within digitally mediated learning environments. He warned of the dangers of "cognitive depletion" if these technologies are not managed responsibly.
In a press statement, Professor Hassan Shaker Magdy emphasized that AL_Mustaqbal University's participation in this international event embodies its strategic vision based on innovation and digital transformation. He pointed out that these events represent a fundamental opportunity to learn about the latest global experiences and develop strategies that keep pace with the rapid changes in education.
_ The University President also reviewed AL_Mustaqbal University's achievements in the field of artificial intelligence, including:
_ Establishing the Future Center for Artificial Intelligence Applications, the first specialized research center of its kind in Iraq.
Electing the Center's Director as a Liaison Member for Artificial Intelligence, representing Iraq in the Arab Scientific Research Councils.
Establishing an Artificial Intelligence Incubator, which has launched numerous initiatives in robotics and educational applications and contributed to the university's students winning international competitions such as Next Generation Istanbul and the Unimed Program Italy.
Establishing pioneering academic programs in the fields of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity within the College of Science.
These achievements are an extension of the directives of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, to support paths to excellence by establishing colleges and programs specialized in artificial intelligence at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Thus, AL_Mustaqbal University demonstrates its leadership in keeping pace with the most prominent global transformations in education and affirms its active presence in shaping an academic and research future that keeps pace with the artificial intelligence revolution.
