The Department of Power Mechanics Engineering Technologies, in cooperation with the Energy Research Center, organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled “The Effect of Changing the Distance Between an Artificial Light Source and a Solar Panel on Electrical Characteristics.” This workshop was conducted as part of the department’s efforts to support scientific research and enhance the practical skills of students in the field of renewable energy technologies. The workshop aimed to study and analyze the effect of radiation intensity resulting from varying the distance between the artificial light source and the solar panel on the panel’s electrical characteristics, particularly voltage, current, and overall efficiency. The session highlighted the direct relationship between irradiance levels and the performance of solar cells under different laboratory conditions. The workshop included a detailed explanation of the theoretical principles governing the operation of solar cells, alongside practical laboratory experiments. Participants conducted hands-on measurements of voltage and current at different distances, analyzed the obtained data, and compared experimental results with theoretical values. This approach contributed to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in engineering laboratories. The workshop was delivered by: • Asst. Lecturer Asmaa Mohammed Hameed • Asst. Lecturer Mustafa Raheem Jasim • Engineer Israa Mohammed Hassan The presenters explained the experimental procedures, proper measurement techniques, and methods for analyzing results, while also discussing the significance of these findings in improving the performance and efficiency evaluation of solar energy systems. The workshop witnessed active engagement from students through scientific discussions and questions related to solar energy applications and the potential use of such experiments in research projects and graduation projects. At the conclusion of the workshop, the organizers emphasized the importance of conducting such scientific activities to develop students’ practical and research skills and to strengthen their understanding of renewable energy technologies. They also highlighted the role of cooperation between academic departments and research centers in enhancing the educational process and keeping pace with modern developments in the energy sector.
