As part of its ongoing commitment to community engagement and addressing environmental challenges, Al-Mustaqbal University took part in the third session of the Environmental Protection and Improvement Council in Babylon, held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Babylon Environment Directorate. The session was attended by the Deputy Governor for Planning Affairs, the Director of the Environment in Babylon, and several council members representing relevant departments and institutions.

The university was represented by Eng. Khalid Kazem Al-Salhi, Director of the Sustainable Development Division at Al-Mustaqbal University, who played an active role in the discussions addressing several critical environmental issues impacting public health and quality of life.

Key topics discussed during the session included:

The issue of random animal slaughter and its role in spreading diseases and epidemics, particularly due to the shutdown of the model slaughterhouse because of administrative challenges.

Water sustainability, focusing on the optimal use of water resources to mitigate the effects of climate change, including the recycling of treated wastewater for irrigation purposes.

Additional topics such as medical waste, stray dog overpopulation, Babylon’s greenbelt areas, the environmental platform, and activating the committee to combat stray dogs.

In his remarks, Eng. Al-Salhi, under the direct guidance of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, affirmed the university’s full readiness to contribute effectively to addressing environmental challenges by conducting joint studies and research with relevant institutions to develop innovative solutions. He also highlighted the willingness of the university’s Sustainability Ambassadors to organize volunteer campaigns outside the campus aimed at protecting the environment across Babylon Province.

At the end of the session, a set of binding recommendations was issued, obligating the concerned authorities to complete the implementation procedures within specific timeframes, in order to improve the environmental reality in the province.
