Al-Mustaqbal University Announces the Results of the Artificial Intelligence Hackathon for Sustainable Development

Under the gracious patronage of the Governor of Babylon, Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi, and the direct supervision of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, Al-Mustaqbal University announced the results of the “Artificial Intelligence Hackathon for Sustainable Development (HACKATHON)”, held as part of the activities of the Future Ambassadors for Sustainability Camp on Saturday, October 17, 2025. The hackathon is part of the university’s strategic vision in artificial intelligence, reflecting its commitment to digital transformation leadership, strengthening the knowledge-based economy, supporting student innovation, and employing advanced technologies to serve society and achieve sustainable development. The competition aimed to encourage university students to develop innovative AI-based solutions to address developmental challenges across key sectors, including engineering and technology, smart agriculture, climate change solutions, smart administrative applications and unemployment reduction, health, nutrition and healthcare systems, smart applications in courts and e-municipal services, clean energy and multi-purpose technologies, and clean water and sustainable applications. A total of 38 student teams participated, competing over several weeks to present high-quality AI-driven projects. The projects were evaluated according to precise criteria, including sustainable impact, AI innovation and practical implementation, marketability, and technical presentation skills. In support of young creative talents, the university allocated financial prizes amounting to one million Iraqi dinars for each winning field. The results concluded with the selection of ten winning teams across five main fields: clean energy, smart agriculture, clean water, multi-purpose applications, and health and nutrition, while no teams qualified in the remaining fields. The awards were presented in the presence of the Governor of Babylon and the University President, who praised the students’ initiatives and their innovative contributions to sustainable development. This hackathon represents a pioneering experience at this level of student participation in artificial intelligence for sustainable development, highlighting Al-Mustaqbal University’s dedication to nurturing talent and empowering future generations to contribute to a promising future for Iraq.
