Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and under the supervision of Asst. Lecturer Mary Imran Mahdi, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, and presented by Asst. Lecturer Sorour Hafidh Mohammed / College of Agricultural Technologies, a seminar entitled “Iraqi Women: Pillars of Development and Partners in Decision-Making” was delivered on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
The seminar aimed to analyze the role of women in Iraqi society from the perspective of modern human development concepts, with a focus on investing in human capital as a true indicator of national wealth, rather than relying solely on traditional financial metrics.
The presentation addressed several key themes, beginning with the economic impact of women’s empowerment, highlighting that closing the gender gap directly contributes to increasing GDP and enhances institutional efficiency through improved risk management and innovation when women assume leadership positions. It also examined the social dimension, emphasizing the central role of women within the family in directing financial resources toward education and healthcare, thereby contributing to breaking intergenerational cycles of poverty.
As part of showcasing leadership and entrepreneurial models, the presentation highlighted influential Iraqi figures with global impact, such as the architect Zaha Hadid and the poet Nazik Al-Malaika, as symbols of professional excellence and the ability to drive major cultural and intellectual transformations that transcend geographical and gender boundaries.
The presentation concluded by offering statistical indicators and factual insights reflecting the current reality of Iraqi women, demonstrating their academic excellence and their constitutionally guaranteed legislative representation of 25% in Parliament, in addition to their growing role in the digital economy and the utilization of technology to create independent employment opportunities. This affirms their full eligibility as essential partners in building the state and society.
