The Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries organized a student scientific workshop titled “Design of Isothermal Reactors and Their Importance in the Chemical Industries,” delivered by Dr. Laith Salem Sabri, with the attendance of a number of department students and those interested in reactor design and industrial processes. The workshop addressed the fundamental concepts of isothermal reactor design and the mechanisms for controlling temperature during reactions to ensure stable performance and achieve optimal conversion rates and selectivity. The speaker also reviewed the differences between common reactor types, such as the Continuous Stirred-Tank Reactor (CSTR) and the Plug Flow Reactor (PFR), when operated under isothermal conditions. In addition, the lecture covered reaction kinetics and the criteria for selecting the optimal reactor volume according to industrial process requirements. This workshop contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) by enhancing energy efficiency in industrial processes. It also supports Sustainable Development Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the development of engineering knowledge and the promotion of innovation in the design and operation of industrial equipment.
