The Legal Committee tasked with reviewing and amending Law No. 61 of 2017 on the Iraqi Academics Union and the Union’s bylaws began its work in Babil Governorate on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, with the participation of distinguished members from the College of Law at Al-Mustaqbal University, at the headquarters of the Iraqi Academics Union’s Babil branch. This strategic initiative comes within the framework of strengthening the rights of the educational community and developing union performance in Iraq, as the College of Law at Al-Mustaqbal University played an active role in shaping the new vision for the law through the participation of Dr. Abdul Rahman Adain and Dr. Qasim Muhammad Hantoush, who provided specialized legal insights to address current gaps and expand the union’s powers to better serve Iraqi academics. This legal initiative came in response to the directives of the President of the Iraqi Academics Union, Prof. Dr. Ali Masir Yassin. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Talib Al-Khafaji, President of the Babylon Academics Union, under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Law at Al-Mustaqbal University. The meeting focused on transforming the provisions of the law into effective working tools that grant the union greater flexibility in protecting scientific and professional achievements. The committee is scheduled to continue its intensive meetings, both in person and online, with the aim of preparing the final draft and submitting it to the General Secretariat, as part of a serious effort to modernize the legal system in line with the aspirations of reputable Iraqi universities. Al-Mustaqbal University ranks first among private universities in Iraq.
