In an academic initiative that addresses the existential challenges facing Iraq, the College of Law at Al Mustaqbal University held a specialized scientific seminar titled "The Legal Framework for Water Security and Its Role in Addressing Regional Challenges and Ensuring Food Security" on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, in the college's halls. The seminar served as a strategic scientific platform to discuss the complexities of the water crisis, where Dr. Ali Al-Saadi provided an in-depth analysis of the legal dimensions related to water security, highlighting the increasing regional pressures, the decline in water quotas, and their direct repercussions on the national food basket and societal stability. Al-Saadi emphasized in his proposals the necessity of updating national and international legislations to keep pace with current geopolitical changes and to preserve Iraq's water sovereignty. The seminar witnessed rich discussions and notable interactions that focused on the need to activate "legal diplomacy" and intensify scientific research to find innovative and sustainable solutions that protect the country's water rights. This event comes as part of the ambitious vision of the Faculty of Law at Al Mustaqbal University to enhance legal awareness and support sustainable development pathways, thereby achieving the higher interests of the nation and securing the future of its generations.
