The students from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, along with engineering technologies, took a tour inside the mushroom farm at Al-Mustaqbal University. The trip included a detailed tour of the farm, accompanied by Dr. Tahani, the farm manager, who provided an in-depth explanation about the cultivation and production of mushrooms using advanced techniques and specialized labor.

The tour included visits to rooms designated for storing and packaging mushrooms, ensuring their quality and freshness during the distribution process. The mushroom farm is a model for smart and sustainable farming, relying on the latest technologies in this field to achieve efficient and environmentally friendly production. The mushrooms produced are known for their high nutritional value, containing significant amounts of carbohydrates, proteins, fiber, vitamins (such as vitamin D and vitamin C), as well as essential minerals like zinc, calcium, magnesium, and selenium.

Mushrooms offer numerous health benefits, including boosting the immune system, lowering cholesterol levels, maintaining healthy skin, reducing blood pressure, and potentially preventing cancer. They also contribute to enhancing food sustainability in the country.

The visit also explored the production of new agricultural food crops, including different types of mushrooms (white and brown), leafy vegetables, cucumbers, yellow corn, radishes, cabbage, and medicinal plants. These crops were grown using sustainable organic farming techniques, without the use of any chemicals. These products are characterized by their high nutritional value and health benefits, making them an ideal choice to support a balanced diet.

This initiative is part of the university’s efforts to achieve sustainable development goals, particularly the second goal related to eliminating hunger and enhancing food security, and the twelfth goal concerning adopting sustainable consumption and production patterns. The initiative reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and achieving comprehensive development by providing healthy, environmentally friendly products that meet the needs of society.

The trip was supervised by the following professors:
• Dr. Alaa Mohamed Hussein Weiss
• Dr. Fatima Turki Sahib
• Dr. Iman Yasser Hussein
