This scientific article explores the legal foundations of consumer rights protection in Iraq, with a particular focus on Consumer Protection Law No. 1 of 2010. The article highlights the following key points:<br /><br />Legal Framework:<br />The article reviews Consumer Protection Law No. 1 of 2010, which aims to ensure consumer rights and protect them from unfair practices and exploitation by suppliers. The law outlines fundamental consumer rights, such as the right to accurate information about goods and services, the right to safety, and the right to compensation for damages.<br /><br />Consumer Protection Council:<br />The law establishes the Consumer Protection Council, which possesses legal personality and financial and administrative independence, and is affiliated with the Council of Ministers. The Council is responsible for setting policies and action plans to protect and regulate consumer rights.<br /><br />Suppliers’ Obligations:<br />The law imposes specific obligations on suppliers to safeguard consumer rights. These include providing accurate information about goods and services, ensuring product quality, and offering after-sales services. The law also prohibits unfair commercial practices such as fraud and deception.<br /><br />Enforcement Mechanisms:<br />The law provides mechanisms for enforcing and protecting consumer rights, including inspection committees formed by the Consumer Protection Council to monitor the implementation of the law, receive consumer complaints, and conduct investigations.<br /><br />Challenges and Solutions:<br />The article discusses the challenges facing the implementation of the Consumer Protection Law in Iraq, such as low consumer awareness and limited resources for enforcement.
