Political systems play a pivotal role in achieving sustainable development by promoting good governance, which is founded on the principles of transparency, accountability, participation, and the rule of law. When political institutions are strong and just, achieving social justice and civil peace becomes more realistic and sustainable.

Inclusive democratic systems enhance citizen participation in decision-making, thereby reinforcing justice and reducing political and economic exclusion. Justice is one of the fundamental dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 16, which focuses on building effective and inclusive institutions to ensure peace and justice for all.

The absence of good governance creates a fertile ground for conflict and discrimination, hindering any developmental progress.
