College of Law Participates in the First Conference of Editorial Boards of Iraqi Scientific Journals<br />Baghdad – Wednesday, September 10, 2025<br /><br />Assistant Lecturer Waleed Khalid Al-Ghanmi represented the College of Law in the First Conference of Editorial Boards of Iraqi Scientific Journals, hosted by the University of Technology – Baghdad under the theme “Advancing Iraqi Journals Towards Excellence.”<br /><br />The event was attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, alongside several university presidents, deans, and editors-in-chief of Iraqi journals, in addition to international experts who joined virtually via Zoom from Elsevier, Clarivate, the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, and ASF.<br /><br />Due to the large number of participants, attendees were divided between the Grand Hall and the Kahro Hall, with live streaming of the proceedings. The conference opened with the national anthem, a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, and Al-Fatiha, followed by a keynote speech from the Minister emphasizing the importance of developing Iraqi journals and enhancing their international standing.<br /><br />This was followed by a lecture delivered by the Deputy Minister for Scientific Research titled: “Iraqi Journals: A Journey of Development and Steps Toward Global Leadership.” The lecture included detailed statistics on the number of indexed and non-indexed journals and mechanisms to support them.<br /><br />During the scientific sessions, a regional comparative analysis revealed a gap in the positioning of Iraqi journals within the Scopus database: Iran has 376 indexed journals, Turkey 333, Egypt 44, while Iraq currently has 42 (ahead of Saudi Arabia with 11). Iraqi journals cover various disciplines; however, no humanities journal has yet been indexed.<br /><br />Experts also discussed mechanisms for funding, sustainability, digital transformation, and the development of electronic platforms. The event concluded with an open dialogue session that outlined general, actionable implementation plans to advance the performance of Iraqi journals.<br /><br />Recommendations:<br /><br />Prepare journals for integration into international indexing databases.<br /><br />Encourage international joint publications by faculty members.<br /><br />Establish a specialized committee to monitor compliance with quality publishing standards.<br /><br />Continue participation in such conferences to enhance the college’s academic and research reputation.<br /><br />Urge the Ministry of Higher Education to increase support and launch incentive programs for journals achieving qualitative progress.<br /><br />The participation of Assistant Lecturer Waleed Khalid Al-Ghanmi reaffirms the College of Law’s commitment to enhancing the quality of scientific publishing and expanding its international impact, in alignment with the Ministry’s vision of advancing scientific research in Iraq.<br /><br />Al-Mustaqbal University – the top university among private universities in Iraq.
