Prof. Amal Abdel Mohamed Ali Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Al-Mustaqbal University Introduction Social justice is one of the fundamental pillars for building advanced and stable societies, as it represents the principle that guarantees equal opportunities among individuals and the fair and equitable distribution of resources. With the growing global interest in sustainable development issues, social justice has emerged as an essential condition for achieving comprehensive development that takes into account economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Justice is not merely a moral requirement, but a practical framework for activating community participation and promoting balance between different groups. First: The concept of social justice Social justice means equality in rights and duties, ensuring that all individuals have equal opportunities in education, employment, social services, and legal justice. It also includes protecting vulnerable groups from marginalization and poverty, and striving to reduce economic and social disparities. This concept is closely linked to the principles of human rights, active citizenship, and democratic participation in decision-making. Second: The concept of sustainable development Sustainable development is the process of balancing the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. It includes three interrelated dimensions: 1. Economic dimension: achieving economic growth and providing employment opportunities. 2. Social dimension: improving quality of life and reducing poverty and inequality. 3. Environmental dimension: conserving natural resources and ensuring their sustainability. Third: The relationship between social justice and sustainable development Social justice is a key pillar of sustainable development, as real economic growth cannot be achieved without a fair distribution of wealth and opportunities. The absence of justice leads to increased poverty, unemployment, and migration, which weakens the social fabric and hinders development. On the other hand, sustainable development contributes to the consolidation of social justice by: - Providing decent employment opportunities for all members of society. - Ensuring quality education, health, and basic services for marginalized groups. - Empowering women and youth to participate in decision-making. - Promoting transparency and accountability in the management of public resources. Fourth: Social justice in development policies The United Nations is keen to integrate social justice into its 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Goal 10 (Reduced inequalities) and Goal 16 (Peace, justice and strong institutions). Countries seek to achieve this through: - Reforming economic policies to ensure equitable distribution of wealth. - Expanding social protection for vulnerable groups. - Supporting inclusive and quality education as a means of achieving justice and empowerment. - Implementing the principles of good governance and combating corruption. Fifth: Challenges to achieving social justice Despite the efforts made, countries face several challenges, including: - The widening gap between rich and poor. - Weak justice institutions and widespread corruption. - Discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, or social class. - The impact of globalization and privatization on the equitable distribution of resources. Conclusion Social justice is not a goal separate from sustainable development; rather, it is its primary driver and guarantee of its continuity. A just society is one that is able to strike a balance between economic growth, social welfare, and environmental protection. Therefore, adopting comprehensive policies based on justice, equality, and active participation is the best way to build a sustainable future for generations to come. References 1. United Nations.
