Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Ammar Abbas Al-Husseini, the College of Law organized a panel discussion titled “The Legal Protection of the Environment and Its Role in Achieving Sustainable Development”, on Saturday, 8/11/2025, in the college hall – the Humanities Building. The seminar was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Waleed Khalid Al-Ghanami, a faculty member in the College of Law, who discussed the legal framework for environmental protection and the role of national and international legislation in reducing pollution and preserving natural resources, thereby enhancing opportunities for achieving sustainable development. He also addressed the importance of enforcing environmental laws and raising both community and institutional commitment to ensure effective environmental protection. The lecturer emphasized that the legal protection of the environment represents a key factor in supporting the paths of sustainable development, as it provides regulations and legislation that contribute to protecting public health and achieving a balance between development requirements and environmental preservation. He also highlighted the necessity of updating environmental laws and strengthening the role of regulatory bodies. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Abdulrahman Abbas Adaiyn.
