Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Prof. Dr. Ammar Abbas Al-Husseini, and within the activities of the College of Law aimed at combating intellectual extremism, the College organized a panel discussion entitled: “The Legal Framework for Addressing Hate Speech and Intellectual Extremism Among Religious Leaders.”
The event was held on Wednesday, 26/11/2025, in the College Hall – Humanities Building.
The panel was delivered by Asst. Lecturer Mona Mohammed Kazem, faculty member at the College of Law, who addressed the legal framework regulating efforts to counter hate speech and intellectual extremism, with a particular focus on the role of religious leaders in promoting awareness and fostering moderate discourse. She also reviewed key Iraqi legislations relevant to this issue, along with the mechanisms for their implementation to curb extremist rhetoric that may threaten societal peace.
The lecturer further highlighted the major challenges faced by educational and religious institutions in confronting extremism, emphasizing the importance of enhancing legal literacy among religious leaders, promoting a culture of coexistence, and rejecting violence. She underscored the need to strengthen preventive strategies that support intellectual security and protect the community from extremist influences.
