Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Prof. Dr. Ammar Abbas Al-Husseini, and on the occasion of the World Children’s Day, the College of Law organized a seminar entitled “Protecting Children in Armed Conflicts”, held on Saturday, 22/11/2025, in the college hall – Humanities Building.
The seminar was delivered by Dr. Saad Obeid Al-Ta’i, a faculty member in the College of Law, who discussed the legal and humanitarian frameworks related to the protection of children during armed conflicts, as well as the obligations imposed by international conventions and national legislation to ensure their rights and safety. He also addressed the challenges faced by educational and community institutions in promoting a culture of child protection during crises, and the importance of raising legal awareness to reduce violations against children.
The seminar further reviewed the most significant Iraqi and international legislations concerning child protection and the mechanisms for implementing them within educational institutions, in addition to highlighting key practices that contribute to fostering a culture of peace and protecting vulnerable groups.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the lecturer emphasized the need to adopt effective awareness programs that reinforce children’s fundamental rights and support efforts aimed at protecting society and strengthening human security.
