Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Ammar Abbas Al-Husseini, and as part of the College of Law’s activities in combating extremist ideology, the College of Law organized a panel discussion titled: “Social Media as an Incubator for Extremist Ideology” on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in the college hall – Humanities Building. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Asaad Ghali Hamzah, a faculty member at the College of Law, who discussed the role of social media platforms in promoting or harboring forms of extremist ideology, and how these platforms can become fertile ground for spreading extremist rhetoric and attracting vulnerable groups. He also reviewed the key legal and legislative mechanisms that can be used to regulate digital content and limit the misuse of these platforms for spreading extremist ideas. The lecturer also addressed the major challenges facing legal and societal institutions in monitoring online content, as well as the importance of enhancing digital awareness among individuals and institutions to reduce the risks associated with irresponsible use of social media. The seminar also included a review of several international standards related to organizing cyberspace and how they can be employed to promote a culture of peace, tolerance, and the rejection of hate speech. At the conclusion of the seminar, Dr. Asaad Ghali Hamzah emphasized the need to adopt effective awareness programs targeting various segments of society to reinforce the values of moderation and openness, and to support efforts aimed at protecting society from the dangers of extremist ideology, in a way that contributes to strengthening intellectual security and societal peace.
