Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Ammar Abbas Al-Husseini, and as part of the College of Law’s activities in combating extremist ideology, the College of Law organized a panel discussion titled: “The Role of Educational Institutions in Countering Extremist Ideology” on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in the college hall – Humanities Building.
The seminar was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Abbas Kareem, a faculty member at the College of Law, who discussed the role of educational institutions in confronting manifestations of extremist ideology and how the academic environment can contribute to promoting awareness and reinforcing the principles of moderation and openness among students. He also reviewed the key educational and legal mechanisms that can be adopted within educational institutions to limit the spread of extremist ideas.
The lecturer highlighted the major challenges faced by educational and societal institutions in developing effective programs to combat extremism, as well as the importance of enhancing curricula that promote critical thinking and encourage students to embrace the values of dialogue and coexistence. The seminar also included a discussion of several international standards concerning the role of education in promoting a culture of peace, tolerance, and the rejection of hate speech.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Abbas Kareem emphasized the need to adopt continuous awareness initiatives targeting various groups of students, in a manner that strengthens the values of moderation, supports efforts to protect society from the dangers of extremist ideology, and contributes to reinforcing intellectual security and societal peace.
