Under the gracious patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and in line with the University’s vision and mission to promote a culture of social responsibility and strengthen voluntary work as a fundamental pillar of sustainable development, the Sustainable Development Division at Al-Mustaqbal University organized the “Al-Mustaqbal Forum for Voluntary Work.” The forum was held in conjunction with the International Volunteer Day, in coordination with the University’s Student Activities Department and the Department of Non-Governmental Organizations Affairs at the Babil Governorate Office, with active participation from student volunteer teams of the Sustainability Ambassadors at Al-Mustaqbal University, as well as a number of distinguished civil society organizations engaged in voluntary work. The forum commenced with a speech delivered on behalf of the University President by Engineer Khalid Kazim Al-Salihi, Head of the Sustainable Development Division. The speech emphasized the continuous support of the University Presidency for voluntary initiatives and its commitment to integrating voluntary work into the University’s scientific and academic strategy and organizational culture, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, thereby strengthening the University’s role as a leading institution in community service. He stressed that voluntary work is not a transient effort or a marginal activity, but rather an ethical and humanitarian message, a way of life, and one of the most important tools for human development. True development, he noted, is not built solely on knowledge, but on values, and is measured not by projects, but by the impact they leave on people’s lives. Al-Salihi added that the University does not limit itself to graduating academically outstanding students, but seeks to prepare active, aware, and responsible citizens toward their society and environment. He affirmed that sustainability can only be achieved through partnership; therefore, the University is keen to support student volunteer initiatives and open avenues of cooperation and partnership with civil society organizations, based on its belief that the integration of roles is the shortest path to achieving sustainable impact and shaping a brighter future. The forum featured presentations of successful volunteer work experiences within the University delivered by the Student Activities Department, alongside pioneering experiences from several civil society organizations, including Ru’ya Foundation for the Care of the Visually Impaired, Ata’a Al-Kafeel Charity Foundation for Orphan Care, and Sada Al-Ata’a Humanitarian Foundation. These experiences collectively reflected the spirit of giving, teamwork, and their positive impact on serving the community and promoting the values of active citizenship. At the conclusion of the forum, Awards of Excellence were presented to the University’s volunteer team and the participating civil society organizations that showcased inspiring stories of voluntary work, in appreciation of their efforts and distinguished contributions. In addition, medals were awarded to outstanding University students in voluntary activities, in a gesture expressing the University’s pride in its students and its role in supporting and motivating young talents to continue their journey of giving.
