Under the generous patronage of the Governor of Babylon, Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi, and under the direct supervision of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and within the activities of the “Future Ambassadors for Sustainability” Camp held on Saturday, October 17, 2025, Al-Mustaqbal University announced the results of the “Artificial Intelligence Hackathon for Sustainable Development” (HACKATHON).
This hackathon is part of the university’s strategic plan in artificial intelligence, its commitment to digital transformation leadership, promoting the knowledge economy, and encouraging student innovation to serve the community and sustainable development.
The competition aimed to motivate university students to design innovative AI-based solutions addressing developmental challenges in critical fields, including:
Engineering and Technology
Smart Agriculture
Climate Change Solutions
Smart Applications in Administration and Unemployment Reduction
Health, Nutrition, and Healthcare Systems
Smart Applications in Courts and Municipal E-Services
Clean Energy and Multi-Purpose Technologies
Clean Water and Sustainable Applications
A total of 38 student teams participated, competing over several weeks to present high-quality projects and ideas based on artificial intelligence that contribute to sustainable development. Evaluation criteria included:
Sustainable Impact (30%)
AI Innovation and Practical Implementation (30%)
Marketability (20%)
Technical Presentation and Communication Skills (20%)
The university presidency ensured support for young creative talents by allocating prizes of one million Iraqi Dinars per category to the winning teams.
The results of the hackathon revealed ten winning teams in five key categories: Clean Energy, Smart Agriculture, Clean Water, Multi-Purpose Applications, and Health & Nutrition. No teams qualified in other categories. The awards were presented in the presence of Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi, Governor of Babylon, and Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, who praised the students’ initiatives and encouraged them to continue innovating for community service and sustainable development.
This hackathon represents the first student-level experience of this magnitude in AI for sustainable development, reflecting the university’s commitment to nurturing talents and empowering new generations to contribute to a promising future for our nation.
