The Design Department at the College of Fine Arts / Future University was established in 2023. It is one of the newly established departments, aiming to elevate the level of design art by preparing designers (graduates) capable of working in state institutions.

Within the available resources, the department seeks to achieve excellence in university education, instill artistic, aesthetic, and educational values in students’ minds and hearts, promote creativity in artistic and aesthetic research, pursue innovation in teaching design, respond to contemporary developments, and prepare graduates in accordance with the standards of total quality management across various design fields and aesthetic education required by educational institutions and the local community.

The Design Department relies on structural, formal, artistic, and aesthetic communication through all art mechanisms, with a special focus on developing artistic taste, literature, critique, and aesthetic values within an artistic vision practically embodied through drawing and its techniques. The department emphasizes enhancing the curricula through practical artistic performance, producing artworks, organizing exhibitions, participating in festivals, artistic and cultural seminars, discussion panels, and specialized training courses, using modern artistic techniques and qualified faculty members with academic degrees and practical experience.

The department aims to be a resource and a source for supplying state educational, artistic, and cultural institutions, as well as the private sector, with specialized design professionals, according to the standards of total quality management and academic accreditation, and in line with the criteria set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in order to advance the artistic, cultural, and aesthetic reality and enhance the artistic taste of society and state institutions, achieving the general objectives of the state.

The department focuses on using design as a means rather than an end in teaching students the foundations of the artistic and aesthetic craft of design across all its fields, such as graphic design and interior design, while preparing graduates who are qualified in terms of knowledge, taste, skills, and educational competencies..

In its Vision, Design Department aspires to become an Accredited National Entity, with the aim of promoting all aspects of Education as well as Scientific Research in the Fields of Arts and Design in Iraq and Babylon, adopting and applying the prescribed Curriculum, which focuses on spreading the culture of design in all its aspects, and thus satisfying human needs in a utilitarian and aesthetic way.

In its Mission, Design Departments aims to qualify a Designer capable of keeping pace with the permanent developments in the world of design, creatively and technologically, promoting the culture of visual communication in the Local Community, stimulating Scientific Research and Continuing Education.

Design Department Objectives can be summarized as follows:
1.Promoting Level of Design Art through the qualification of Specialized Designers.
2.Motivating Students' Personal Talents through permanent processes of training and practicing so as to get at the end highly distinguished designers.
3.Submitting Students’ Graduation Projects to Official Institutions so as to benefit from them in various Specializations, , especially those related to industrial products, such as Printing Presses, Textile Factories, and Interior Designs of Modern Official Institutions
4.Keeping pace with the great developments at International Design Methods and Techniques in order to develop Prescribed curricula, especially those of Computer Program Designs
5.Urging Students to focus on Iraqi Identity in Design, avoiding as far as possible to rely on Non-Iraqi Vocabulary or Elements in Design
6.Design Department aims to qualify Designers and Visual Artists who would serve the Environment in several Artistic and Practical Fields.
7.Design Department contributes to raising the level of Artistic Taste, spreading Aesthetic Awareness, and introducing the Outside World to the High Level that Plastic Art has reached in Babylon
8.Motivating and assisting Students to learn Artistic Techniques, in addition to training on the equipment, machines, and materials that a designer needs in his work as a Designer after graduation
