The economic development of Iraqi women is a cornerstone of achieving comprehensive and sustainable development in society, given their pivotal role in supporting families, strengthening social stability, and actively contributing to the national economy. Despite the economic and social challenges Iraq has faced over the past decades, women's economic empowerment has become an urgent necessity for achieving growth and development. Women's economic development means providing them with equal opportunities in the labor market, supporting their participation in various economic activities in both the public and private sectors, encouraging women's entrepreneurship, and facilitating their access to loans and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It also includes improving the level of education and vocational training to align with the demands of the modern labor market. Iraqi women face a number of obstacles that limit their economic participation, including unemployment, limited job opportunities, social customs, and restricted access to financial resources. However, adopting supportive government policies and launching economic empowerment programs can help bridge this gap and enhance women's financial independence. Women's economic development directly contributes to improving family living standards, reducing poverty rates, and increasing productivity, as well as strengthening women's role in decision-making within the family and society. Furthermore, women's participation in economic development leads to social justice and a more equitable distribution of income. In this context, the economic development of Iraqi women is closely linked to Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5): "Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls." This goal focuses on promoting women's participation in economic life, ensuring their equal opportunities in employment, and eliminating all forms of discrimination against them. In conclusion, investing in the economic capabilities of Iraqi women not only benefits women themselves but also contributes to driving sustainable development for the entire society and strengthens the achievement of the SDGs in the long term.
