As part of efforts to promote health awareness and spread the culture of physical activity among students, an awareness campaign on walking as a sport was organized under the supervision of Lecturer Assistant Zainab Nazim Aziz and Lecturer Assistant Baneen Maen Kareem, with the participation of a number of students and staff members.
The campaign aimed to highlight the importance of walking as one of the simplest and most beneficial physical activities that contribute to improving public health. Regular walking helps strengthen the heart muscle, stimulate blood circulation, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, in addition to its positive role in improving mental health and reducing stress.
This campaign also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, by encouraging healthy lifestyles and disease prevention.
Goal 4: Quality Education, through enhancing health awareness and disseminating sound information among students.
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by promoting environmentally friendly physical activities such as walking.
The campaign included providing general guidelines on the best times for walking, the recommended daily walking duration, and the importance of continuity and wearing appropriate footwear, contributing to the promotion of a culture of health care and physical activity within the university community.
