Contemporary murals play an important role in enhancing cultural identity and achieving cultural sustainability through the conscious and well-considered use of color to convey artistic and social messages. Colors go beyond their aesthetic function to reflect heritage symbols, communicate societal values, and contribute to shaping collective awareness, while also influencing the public’s aesthetic and intellectual taste. Contemporary mural art also contributes to stimulating community participation and promoting cultural dialogue, in addition to highlighting key issues such as cultural diversity, belonging, and social justice, making it an effective artistic medium for expressing the concerns of contemporary society. This role aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, most notably: Goal 4: Quality Education, by spreading cultural and aesthetic awareness and enhancing informal education through visual arts in public spaces. Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, as murals contribute to improving the urban landscape, preserving the cultural identity of cities, and making them more inclusive and attractive. Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, by employing mural art as a platform to express issues of social justice and cultural diversity. Thus, contemporary murals, with their color applications and intellectual visions, become an effective tool for preserving cultural heritage, promoting cultural sustainability, and building a culturally aware and cohesive society...Almustaqbal University, The First University in Iraq .
