In recent years, genetic testing has become one of the cornerstones of modern medicine, allowing the identification of genetic predispositions to diseases before they appear. This opens the door to early preventive interventions and targeted therapies. With the rapid advancement of medical technology, the concept of Accessible Genetic Testing has emerged, making this service available at lower costs and through simpler procedures, even reaching communities with limited resources such as Iraq. Accessible genetic testing represents a true revolution in the field of Precision Medicine, enabling physicians to detect genetic mutations responsible for heart disease, cancer, and other hereditary disorders. This knowledge allows for the design of personalized treatment plans for each patient, instead of relying on general protocols that may not be effective for everyone. In addition, close follow-up based on genetic information reduces the likelihood of disease progression or recurrence and improves patients’ quality of life. Despite these great opportunities, the field faces fundamental challenges, most notably: protecting sensitive genetic data from misuse, ensuring that test results are clear and understandable to patients, and training medical professionals to interpret results and provide genetic counseling in a scientific and ethical manner. These are essential requirements to guarantee the optimal use of this technology. ________________________________________ Accessible Genetic Testing and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) The impact of accessible genetic testing goes far beyond the medical dimension, as it closely relates to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations in the 2030 Agenda: • Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being Genetic testing contributes to prevention and early diagnosis, reducing mortality rates and improving quality of life. • Goal 4: Quality Education The need for specialized training programs for doctors and specialists enhances continuing medical education and spreads health awareness in society. • Goal 5: Gender Equality Genetic testing provides equal opportunities for women in early detection of diseases such as breast and ovarian cancer, thereby strengthening women’s health empowerment. In this way, accessible genetic testing is not merely a modern medical technique, but rather a strategic tool that contributes to achieving a comprehensive vision of sustainable development.
