Introduction With rapid technological development, electronic lectures have become an essential part of the educational process in universities, especially after the spread of distance learning. This type of education has had both positive and negative effects on college students, influencing their academic achievement and level of academic engagement. First: The Positive Effects of Electronic Lectures One of the most prominent advantages of electronic lectures is flexibility in time and place, as students can attend lectures from anywhere without the need for commuting. In addition, lectures can be recorded and replayed, which helps students better understand the material, particularly in difficult subjects. Electronic lectures also contribute to the development of students’ technical skills and their use of modern digital tools. Moreover, they provide a variety of educational resources such as presentations, videos, and educational links. Second: The Negative Effects of Electronic Lectures Despite their advantages, electronic lectures have some drawbacks. One of the most significant is the lack of direct interaction between students and instructors, which may reduce opportunities for discussion and asking questions. Some students also suffer from decreased concentration due to prolonged screen time. Other issues include weak internet connectivity or the lack of appropriate devices for some students, creating inequality in learning opportunities. Furthermore, complete reliance on e-learning may lead to feelings of isolation and boredom among some students. Conclusion In conclusion, electronic lectures can be considered a double-edged sword. They offer significant benefits when used in an organized and well-planned manner, but they may cause negative effects if not supported by direct interaction and continuous follow-up. Therefore, combining electronic learning with face-to-face education is recommended to achieve the best educational outcomes for college students.
