Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hussein Wahid Aziz, Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, with the follow-up of Lecturer Dr. Ingham Salim Al-Dulaimi, Head of the Department of Archaeology, the faculty members and students of the Archaeology Department conducted a scientific trip to the Jubaysh Marshes in Dhi Qar Governorate on the occasion of World Wetlands Day, celebrated on February 2. The Jubaysh Marshes are among the most important ecosystems in Iraq and the world, distinguished by their biological diversity, which contributes to maintaining ecological balance. They are also a cultural environment linked to human history in the Mesopotamian Valley since ancient times. These marshes represent a natural and cultural heritage reflecting the traditional lifestyles of the local population, making their preservation and sustainability a national and academic responsibility. The trip aimed to raise environmental and cultural awareness among students, connect archaeological studies with the natural environment, and highlight the importance of protecting wetlands as an integral part of Iraq’s civilizational identity.
