Playwriting is considered the cornerstone of the theatrical process, as the entire performance originates from the script, which forms the fundamental structure of the artistic work. The transition from an abstract idea to a live performance on stage goes through several creative and methodical stages that require dramatic awareness and artistic expertise. 1. Generating the Idea The playwriting process begins with an idea that may stem from social reality, a human issue, a historical event, or even a philosophical question. The important point is that the idea must be dramatically viable, containing conflict or tension that can be developed within a theatrical structure. 2. Building the Plot The idea is then structured within a clear dramatic framework that includes a beginning to set up the events, a middle where the conflict escalates, and an ending that provides a resolution or climax. Organizing the events and their sequence is essential for maintaining the audience’s engagement. 3. Developing Characters Characters are the main drivers of the action; therefore, they should be multi-dimensional (psychological, social, intellectual) and possess convincing motivations that justify their actions within the script. 4. Writing Dialogue Dialogue is the primary expressive tool in theater, through which ideas and conflicts are revealed. It should be natural, expressive, and serve the development of the plot, avoiding unnecessary directness or excessive length. 5. Theatrical Directions The script includes stage directions regarding movement, lighting, time, and place, which assist the director and production team in transforming the written text into a complete visual performance. Conclusion Playwriting is a comprehensive creative process that combines imagination with artistic organization, transforming a mental concept into a written text and then into a live performance that comes alive on stage. It conveys a profound intellectual and aesthetic message to the audience. Additionally, playwriting can contribute to enhancing quality education by developing students’ critical thinking and creative skills, teaching them how to express social and environmental issues through impactful artistic expression, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education......Almustaqbal University, The First University in Iraq.
