Awareness Campaign on Kidney Disease Prevention Organized by the Department of Biochemistry

As part of promoting health awareness and spreading preventive culture among students and the community, the Department of Biochemistry organized an awareness campaign entitled “Kidney Disease Prevention is a Shared Responsibility.” The campaign was supervised by Asst. Lect. Haider Mutlak Mousa, with the participation of several faculty members and students of the department. The campaign aimed to introduce kidney diseases as chronic conditions that can significantly affect human health and quality of life. It highlighted their major causes and risk factors, including high blood pressure, diabetes, excessive salt intake, inadequate water consumption, and the improper use of certain medications. The campaign also emphasized the importance of early detection and regular medical checkups in reducing disease progression and preventing complications. The event included the display of educational posters, awareness images, and simplified scientific materials explaining the functions of the kidneys in the body, early warning signs of kidney disease, and practical methods of prevention. In addition, health guidance was provided on drinking sufficient amounts of water, following a balanced low-salt diet, maintaining normal blood pressure and blood glucose levels, and consulting a doctor when any unusual symptoms appear. During the campaign, the supervisor Asst. Lect. Haider Mutlak Mousa delivered a speech stressing that health awareness is a fundamental step in preventing chronic diseases. He noted that academic institutions play an important role in community service alongside education by organizing educational activities that help spread health culture among students and society. He added that such campaigns contribute to building a more health-conscious generation capable of protecting itself and its community. The campaign witnessed positive interaction from students and attendees, who raised many questions about prevention methods and healthy habits for maintaining kidney health. These inquiries were answered by the supervising staff in a clear and scientifically simplified manner. At the conclusion of the event, the organizers confirmed their commitment to continuing such awareness campaigns in the future due to their positive impact on raising health awareness within the university and the wider community.
