Department of Biochemistry Sciences
About
The Department of Biochemistry is one of the important newly established scientific departments in 2023, as part of the College of Science. It focuses on studying biological processes in the human body, such as metabolism, which includes the breakdown and synthesis of biological molecules like carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, and nucleic acids, enabling the body to perform its various functions.

The department also covers other fundamental processes such as protein synthesis, cellular signaling, and cellular respiration, all of which contribute to maintaining cellular integrity and vital functions.

Additionally, the department is concerned with understanding metabolic disorders that may lead to chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart, liver, and kidney diseases, as well as hormonal disorders.

As a fundamental science for understanding and diagnosing diseases, biochemistry is taught in colleges of medicine, pharmacy, and nursing. Among its prominent specializations are:

· Clinical Biochemistry
· Molecular Chemistry
· Pharmaceutical Chemistry
· Nutritional Biochemistry
· Neurochemistry

The department also provides modern laboratories and research opportunities that enable students to gain hands-on training in diagnosing diseases and analyzing medical tests.
