Presented by Assistant Lecturer Hussein Ali Hussein, and as part of its efforts to raise community awareness on sustainable development issues, the Department of Accounting at the College of Administrative Sciences organized a scientific workshop titled **“Food Surplus Management and Its Role in Combating Hunger”**, with the participation of faculty members, students, and stakeholders interested in economic and social matters. The workshop highlighted the importance of effective management of food surplus as a practical solution to reduce food waste and optimize the use of available food resources, contributing to supporting needy groups and promoting social solidarity. It also reviewed global best practices in reducing food loss and mechanisms for collecting and distributing surplus food in an organized and safe manner. The workshop emphasized that food surplus management is a key tool in achieving the second Sustainable Development Goal, which is to end hunger, by enhancing the efficiency of food resource use, reducing losses, and supporting community initiatives that provide food for low-income families. The event included fruitful scientific discussions among participants, during which a range of ideas and proposals were presented to improve food surplus management mechanisms in society, highlighting the importance of collaboration between government institutions, the private sector, and educational institutions in adopting initiatives that reduce food waste and promote food security. This workshop is part of a series of scientific workshops organized by the Department of Accounting, aiming to spread scientific awareness and strengthen the role of academic institutions in achieving sustainable development goals and serving the community.
